Man Proposes, God Disposes

Romans 12:2,
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is   that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

Isn't it amazing how often we are consumed with trying to bend people and circumstances to our desires?  If we could only get a handle on what God really wants or what God would really have us do.  This world is racing toward its   own ends and what the rulers of this world think is important is usually on the exact opposite track of what   God would do.   At the end of the day there are two forces   at work in our world and we serve one or the other.

Our plans may seem perfectly righteous in our own eyes   but are really in conflict with what our Creator desires.     Our minds are either given over to the stress of our environment or we experience the peace that is promised   by our Lord when we rest in the arms of His plans in our lives.  We spend enormous amounts of time, money and energy in doing what we think is right and often never even ask the Lord, "What do you think I should do?"  I'm impressed with King David and his quick response at   Ziklag (1 Samuel 30) when the crushing weight of his circumstances were about to destroy him.  The scripture says in verse 8, "And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them?"

Notice that David didn't think to do what he may have wanted but earnestly put his request before the Lord and the Lord brought him the victory and restoration of his property and family.  The Lord was David's friend and ally   in the midst of his trouble but notice that David was   yielded in his heart to Yahweh's desire.  Man proposes,   God disposes.

God's will is all that matters.  If we can find it here and now in our lives, we are on the right side of eternity and Adonai's peace may reign and His Kingdom may flourish in our midst today.
