Spiritual Warfare At Beit Mashiach

Ephesians 6:12,
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

It's a glorious time when we realize in our hearts that the Lord has called us to a greater and higher calling that rises above the clamor, business and strife that entails so many of our lives.  Recently, I felt in my heart the Lord calling our fellowship at Beit Mashiach into 'spirit warfare'.  Spiritual warfare is a term we use when we discuss the battles each one of us encounter every day within ourselves in our world.

So many of our brothers and sisters in Messiah are in bondage due to Satan's warfare against them and they don't even realize the spiritual tussle they find themselves in.  We are in a war!  It is a real shooting war.   It is a vicious spiritual war where we have an enemy so diabolical that he will not stop short of our death, both physically and spiritually.  He wants you dead!  So often, the people of God have left the field of battle without even putting up a fight.   They so often have had dead teachings, unspiritual leadership and religious bondage.  Carnal teachings, dead preachers and useless traditions have watered down Yeshua's people and put them to sleep.  In this spiritual war they are, in fact, prisoners of war to HaSatan and their wonderful buildings have become holding cells for POWs.  These are the ones our Lord came to set free!

Isaiah 61:1,
"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;"

This passage from the Prophet Isaiah is a Messianic prophecy.  It was this passage that was spoken by our Messiah when His ministry was being inaugurated.  And so it goes that we, the followers of Yeshua HaMashiach, have been given as part of our  great commission, this same responsibility.  We are called to do the same things.   However, we must be born again, set free by the Spirit of God and His Word.

It is up to us to preach the good tidings of God's forgiveness given to believers through God's Son.   We are also told to ''bind up the broken hearted''.  This tells me we are to help mend, comfort, and with Yeshua's help, restore both spiritually and physically, those who have been hurt and left for dead.  The healing the Lord has, and wants to perform through us, is something that only He can provide!  His beloved sheep are at stake.  We are to proclaim this liberty to captive brothers and sisters, and open the prison doors to them who are in chains.   Of course we ourselves must be delivered and set free before we are 'healthy' enough to enter the battle and win.  This is what we mean when we start talking about 'spiritual warfare'.

Scriptures give us so many views into this spiritual war that a person can look in almost every book of the Bible and see an application.  For example, we see spiritual warfare taking place even during the ministry of the Prophet Jeremiah.

When God called the young Jeremiah as a prophet to the nations, it came with a sixfold prophetic apostolic mandate:
1. He was to root out,
2. Pull down,
3. Destroy,
4. Throw down,
5. Build and
6. Plant

Looking at it, we see this bold, yet humble Jeremiah accepting his calling and, despite the horrendous religious opposition raging against him(spiritual warfare), he walked in obedience to the Lord and fulfilled his mission.   Even today, even in such a perverse generation in which we find ourselves, God’s people are still called to root out, pull down, destroy, throw down, build and plant.  We are picking up this mantle at Beit Mashiach.

Now keep in mind we don't do our warfare in the flesh.  We aren't wrestling with flesh and blood.  We don’t engage in physical battles, but we do wrestle “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in high places”   And remember, Yeshua has given us the mandate, authority and power through His Word to gain the victory.

It is time to train our people in the nuances of this spiritual warfare.  Yeshua wants His people free!   We have spiritual weapons for offense and we have them for defense.  We've been given ''the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God."   We must practice and train our people in this warfare and engage and defeat our enemy.  It is important to be well versed and well prepared in this warfare.   The times demand a new and fresh dedication to fighting the good fight for our precious Lord and Savior.

The Apostle Paul said, “Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Messiah." (2 Corinthians 10:3-4)

Today, with our hearts looking unto Yeshua our Messiah, we redicate ourselves to this Warfare.  Thank you Lord!
