In our times the occult has been very popular. For as long as I can remember, the culture around me has been saturated with witchcraft, sorcery and the black arts. We were taught as youngsters that witchcraft and the occult were 'cute', 'soft, warm and cuddly'. We were influenced greatly by Disney's Magical Kingdom, and watched things like the Smurfs, Bewitched and Harry Potter influence everything around us without a second thought. We have smiled indulgently at Dungeons and Dragons while our Saturday morning cartoons were feeding our children the worst witchcraft and sorcery the sponsors of these shows could bring. It is no wonder pornography is so rampant in our nation today.
The American (global) media, especially network television, has crammed our TV screens with the godless, immoral and the supernatural. And, all of it is an ardent, repulsive enemy of the cross to Israel's Messiah, Yeshua the Son of God. We have seen shows about psychics helping police with crime, mediums going main stream and devils doing works of charity and magic. At the same time we have seen anything that even looks or smells Christian, or Messianic, put down and ridiculed. It's all very disgusting and the people of this nation, young and old, seem to lap up this assault on Yeshua, the Word of God, with glee. Now we see the hand of judgement upon our nation. Now the pay day we thought would be some day is here. The bondage has settled in, confusion is everywhere and our nations leaders are as lost as the authority figures on any sitcom you see on any given day. It is pitiful and it affects everyone, saint or sinner.
It's interesting to note though how situational ethics have worked on our collective psyche. In our media we have seen how easily our defences have been breeched, how we have lost the ability to choose between right from wrong. The ethical questions in the 'lifeboat' come at us all the time. These continual drippings in front of us of 'what would you do?' has helped to lead to our current sad anarchy. Situational ethics are commonly used in just about every one of the stories we view and it causes you to ask the tough questions of who should be eliminated first. This is diabolical. Situational ethics destroy innocence. Should somebody choose between father and mother? Which child would you give up if you could only save one?
Perception is another part of the current brain washing going on. For example, on many of the programs the police are usually portrayed as skeptics, but when a horrible killer is on the loose, they're willing to turn to a psychic. Strangeness has gone mainstream. The good are bad, the bad are good, and how dare you question these things! You will notice that the psychics and/or witches, formally portrayed as some dark repressed control freak(which the spirit possessing them is), are now almost always attractive and appealing, like Samantha (Bewitched) or Sabrina, the blond teenage witch. Also, when was the last time you saw an authority figure like a dad, mayor, clergyman, or business man portrayed as a positive role model? Ward Cleaver where are you? Don't you miss the days of Cliff Huxtable on the Cosby Show? You can see the break up of our culture and the godless peer pressure expressed in great detail daily on the air waves. This culture war is raging right before our eyes. There has been a sea change in America. We are living in perilous times and need to sharpen our spiritual skills in the discerning of spirits.
The wave of acceptance among believers in Yeshua the Messiah is alarming too when it concerns the occult in our land and around the world. I read the other day where the Harry Potter books have sold over 1 billion copies globally. It is unfortunate, but many of these books are in the homes of people that say they have faith in the God of the Bible. This shouldn't be. The Word says that 'many are called but few are chosen', not 'many are chilled and a few are frozen'. Do you realize that 1 in 7 people in the world have been infected with witchcraft and sorcery, both of which are an abomination to our Lord? A lifestyle like this invites spiritual darkness, spiritual death and chaos.
Scripture has plenty to say on the subject of situational ethics. Perhaps the best example I can think of is when Israel's backslidden King Saul consulted the Witch of Endor. At the time, Israel's primary prophet Samuel had just died, and the king was threatened by a significant host of Philistines wanting to end his life. Of course, Saul only went to the witch when the LORD refused to answer his pleas for direction: "And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him not, neither by dreams nor by Urim, nor by prophets" (I Samuel 28:6). Saul's justifications are interesting to note too. They help to demonstrate the slippery slope that a progressive rejection of the LORD always facilitates. Instead of proclaiming a fast, or assigning men to seek out a true prophet of the LORD in the land of Israel, or actually repenting, "Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee" (I Samuel 28:8). Notice that Saul knew exactly what he was doing. You can almost imagine his advisers begging him not to take this course. But in Saul's mind he was doing right: His country needs direction -- and after all, the LORD just won't answer. He wanted supernatural help outside the Lord: This is WITCHCRAFT! In what has to be one of the most bizarre examples of twisted logic illustrated anywhere in the scriptures, we see that because Saul had lost his connection to the LORD, with the death of the prophet Samuel, God had chosen not to answer Saul's various supplications. Now, in desperation, Saul had gone to a medium to try to conjure up the spirit of Samuel the prophet. In doing so he got more than he bargained for. Oh he got Samuel all right. He also received the judgement pronounced on him that he would die that very day. Our nation should pay close attention to this.
King Saul's plan is so poorly conceived that most people can recognize the flawed thinking behind it. Yet our leaders in America are doing essentially the same thing. Nancy Reagan famously turned to astrology to help her husband. George Bush 1 and 2 are members of the Masonic death cult Skull and Bones. In 2004 both presidential candidates were members of Skull and Bones (Bush 2 and John Kerry). Hillary Clinton thought she was Eleanor Roosevelt reincarnated. Not to be outdone, our current leader had the reconstructed Altar of Zeus (Satan) built for his first inauguration speech in 2008. Do you think this all differs much from King Saul? How sad that our leaders, who represent us, have turned to evil when trying to (supposedly) combat evil.
At least King Saul started out good. So too, as the wickedness in our society continues to escalate, the ostensibly decent factions within our allegedly "Christian" nation are also, unfortunately, turning to those that have familiar spirits for guidance. This is really bad. Remember, God's judgement begins first at the House of the Lord.
As for America, people must realize that spiritual debauchery has awful consequences. What we are seeing today is the rough equivalent of Satan's right hand chasing his prey into his left hand. It's ubsurd. The blind are leading the blind. Unless a great Bible based revival breaks out in our land, we have but a very short time left. Just as the sad example of Saul seeking his own way through the unclean spiritual world of a witch ended up for him in great spiritual darkness; this once upright nation, America, is groping in the darkness as well. Who can deny that our beloved 'homeland' now stands for that land said to be "the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird" (Revelation 18:2). In short, we can plainly see that 21st century America would have quickly endeared herself to the Witch of Endor. Remember my friends to tell the world: He that stands for nothing will fall for anything!
