Ephesians 2:14 (KJV)
"For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;"
At Beit Mashiach we have a Messianic community of Jews and Gentiles who worship Yeshua, our Messiah, in a setting that is along the lines of historic Biblical Judaism. Well, sort of. We are unique in that we speak several languages and try to accept anyone desiring to seek Yeshua, our risen Messiah in Spirit and in Truth. We tell people we are 'Tri-Lingual and welcome diversity. We celebrate the Jewish roots of Messiah with a lot of Hebrew in our songs, liturgy and discussion. We translate everything we can from English to Spanish and vice versa as well. We try to relate to the Jewish culture Yeshua of Nazereth grew up in and lived. So many things are explained to us from the Jewish Bible and culture together that often times we can see things much clearer than we could before. We have numerous examples of lessons and applications we never would have realized had we just kept to the modern western view of Christianity, or Judaism for that matter. We desire to know Yeshua the Messiah in the context of how He lived, how He thought, and how He would have interacted with the people, the Jewish people of His day. We love the Torah, we love the Shabbat, we love the Lord's Feasts and we are zealous to grow in His Word.... all of it, Genesis to Revelation.
I also love the Apostle Paul's framing of his letter to the Ephesians. He is centering everything on Yeshua, and the Spirit of the living God being our peace. That is to say that God's peace is to be the center core of our relationship with Him and with the world around us. We need to have Yeshua in our hearts daily, guiding us through His peace, love and grace. When we have that then we may approach the issues that surround us in our own world. Paul is telling us that from God's point of view, according to the Word of God, now that Yeshua has lived, died and been resurrected then we are living by a new, foreordained standard. We are not bound to a standard of ceremonies or religion or tradition, but by a new and living way that Yeshua paid for by dying for mankind on the cross. The rules have changed and one of the rules that will never again be in front of God's people is the 'big me and the little you'. The wall Paul is discussing is the barrier set up between Judaism, the original doorway to Yahweh, and the rest of the world. That wall of division between Jew and Gentile is broken asunder in Messiah. We are all of one tree in Yeshua of Nazereth. The divisions now are only between 'belief' and 'unbelief'. Is your heart circumcised by belief in God's Son? The circumcision that now matters is only the one done 'without hands'. Or, do you believe in any other way which denies the mighty claims of the Son of God? Everyone is welcome at the Abba's table, all you have to do is recognize Who His Son is. We are all accepted by our faith in Yeshua, the living Son of the living God.
The wall of partition is man made. The wall has been knocked down by Yeshua just as the veil in the Temple was torn down the middle the day He was put on the cross. Our Messianic vision and purpose and mission is to work at keeping that wall of partition broken down so that all may have equal access to the Jewish Messiah, Yeshua the King. We desire for Jews to be able to see Israel's Messiah in the context of what they would know and be famaliar with. We want all people, Jews and Gentiles to see His hand at work on His people, those united in building up the Kingdom of God. Everyone is welcome in God's Messianic fellowship. It is our prayer that God will give us the wisdom and foresight to make sure the wall never goes up again. Give us the strength Lord. May the Holy Spirit guide us in this work!
