James 1:23, 24
“For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass. For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.”
For those of us who understand that Yeshua our Messiah is the revealed, and manifest Word of God come to Earth, we need also to understand that this Word, His Word, when applied will change our lives. The question becomes, "How do we do this?"
At the heart of this question is us. How do we view ourselves. It is important to stop viewing ourself from what is our particular perspective and ask the Lord to reveal to us how we really are. When we have a narcissistic attitude about ourselves, if we view ourselves in the wrong light, it is difficult for the Lord to show us what we really need to see. When we see ourselves as the center of the universe the Lord will not compete with the question of who is number one. Our perspective can be one of pride and selfishness or humility and openheartedness. This is the reason so many can read the same Bible and come away with amazingly different view points.
The Bible, God's Word, will reveal to you your true inward spiritual condition. When you understand this from an eternal standpoint you realize what a huge blessing this is. God's Word is our precious mirror. Through His Word, the Holy Spirit is able to do amazing things in our lives when we will look at ourselves from what He sees. The first crucial truth we are confronted with though is who we really are. The believer must come to grips with ownership, stewardship and surrender. Who really is Lord? Remember, the Spirit of the Lord will not always strive with man!
Do you really want to know what you look like in God’s eyes? …. Look in the mirror! The Bible is that mirror. It will show you everything in a true and perfect reflection. It will zero in on everything you are struggling with if you will allow it. Importantly, if you can handle what is revealed to you you will be able to finally change those things in your life you don't like. You will experience real growth in Him. You will truly be blessed and amazed when you see the change occurring in you and you probably won't think you are doing much of anything to help the process. God's Word is mighty but we must act upon what we see in the mirror!
