Proverbs 16:21-23, "The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning. Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly. The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips."
Recently, the History Channel broadcast a five part series called, 'The Bible'." There were many people asking me what I thought. They thought it was a wonderful representation of God's Word that had the potential to expose people to Yeshua and thus have the potential to see them saved. My first impulse was to agree but then I saw the first episode and was amazed that in their telling of the story they completely left out the story of Jacob (later Israel) and Joseph. How can you tell the Hebrew story and leave out Jacob and Joseph? There were some other problems I had with it but felt that at the very least it was distorted, even if done unintentionally.
After the later episodes aired, and with adulation for the series strong among believers and unbelievers alike, I really had to search my heart for what would the Lord think? I remember feeling this same sensation after 9/11 when the churches and synogogues filled up and people were saying, "Isn't this great?" I think only time will tell of the real fruit born from this series but I do not have high hopes for some revival beginning because of something the History Channel has produced. People have said to me, "But what if someone comes to Messiah as a result of this program?" That would be wonderful. However, people came to Yeshua the Messiah during the Holocaust too and I sure would never consider that horror to be worth something okay because it saw people come to the Lord. The Lord is able to save people from all walks of life in many different circumstances but the integrity of His Word is another, greater matter.
Please. Can we drink from an unpolluted well? If you are receiving your eternal, spiritual guidance from a source outside of the Bible you will be deceived. What fellowship does darkness have with light? What concord hath Messiah with Belial? Where is the discernment God's people are supposed to have? The agenda of the television networks has been nothing short of an enemy of the God of the Bible. To not be suspicious of what they say, do and produce seems really foolish. To be so willing to fully, and without reservation, accept the offering of the godless about what you consider sacred is alarming. We are the ones with Yeshua's message. We are the ones who are His followers charged with taking this most precious message to the World. We are the ones who should be scrutinizing the methods, the reasons and agendas of those who would counterfeit those things God chooses to convey His love and true light to the World. If we are so easily entertained by the powers of darkness maybe we should analyze the light we think we are walking in.
