"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;"
Alcohol is a substance that Satan has used to destroy our families and rob many of us of doing the will of God. The scripture does not say, "Thou shalt not drink", but it does tell us of the foolishness of getting drunk, and the ease at which the 'habit' of alcohol can draw us in. I come from a family that has been devastated by drink and I know my own tendencies. When I see believers in Yeshua being flippant, and unguarded about their 'partying life' another scripture comes to mind:
1 Peter 5:8, "
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"
The devil does not need our help. When you get into habits that you know are not God's best for your life you can be certain that the adversary, Satan, is right there with his demonic violin trying to draw you in deeper and deeper until you don't have resistance to fight back. As disciples of Yeshua it is not enough to be just sober. We need to also be vigilant about our walks and on guard to help our brothers and sisters stay free from the deceitful traps laid down by the tempter. Be sure Satan is on the prowl for your soul. The fight is difficult enough. We don't need to hand him the weapons to destroy our life. Be sober! Be vigilant! Be excited about Yeshua!
