Hebrews 12:1, "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,"
This is a very interesting verse. You are challenged to look around you at the witnesses who are watching and when you realize that they are watching, you are advised to get rid of anything that will slow you down in this life: Every Weight. It doesn't judge here as to the good or bad, or what we even think necessary, but we get rid of things because they do not help us in this race. The emphasis is on the race. The goal of this race is to please these witnesses who are watching. Then, the writer tells us to get rid of the sin. We need to understand the difference between sin and sin(s). Sin(s) are what we do because of sin. Sin is that enslaving force that pulls us into darkness and evil everyday. That force that can only be brought under control by the blood of Yeshua. This is a daily fight and that is why we have to have patience. We need patience with ourselves and patience in trusting Adonai to deliver us and strengthen us. However, we are the ones who run this race and we don't want to let down the witnesses, the Father and the Son who are rooting for us from on High.
